Austin Healey is a former England international rugby union player, celebrated for his versatility, sharp rugby intelligence, and competitive spirit. Known affectionately as “The Leicester Lip” for his outspoken confidence and charisma, Austin was one of English rugby’s most dynamic and entertaining figures, both on and off the field.
During a glittering career with the Leicester Tigers, Austin made over 230 appearances, helping guide the club to four consecutive Premiership titles (1999–2002) and back-to-back Heineken Cup victories in 2001 and 2002. Renowned for his adaptability across the backline, from scrum-half to full-back, he was named Premiership Player of the Season (1999–2000) and later inducted into Leicester’s ‘Walk of Legends’.
Internationally, Austin earned 51 caps for England between 1997 and 2003, scoring 16 tries. Starting as an analyst with the BBC on their 6 nations coverage in 2005 were he broke down the game demystifying rugby’s intricacies for the audience. Performing the same role as head analyst as part of ESPN’s rugby coverage from 2010 to 2014. He has been a prominent part of BT Sport's rugby team, providing expert analysis and match commentary for the Gallagher Premiership, European competitions, and international fixtures.
